How is a water bill allocated between apartments?
Calculation methods
Allocation depends on condominium regulations and local practice. Supplier tariffs may vary by consumption band and use category. Common methods use actual consumption, the number of occupants or progressive consumption bands.
Fixed and variable charges
Suppliers may apply a fixed charge and variable charges for services such as sewerage and treatment. Fixed charges allocate a set amount, while variable charges depend on consumption.

Example using consumption bands
The amounts and tariffs below are illustrative calculation data. They are not your supplier’s actual tariff or the software price.
Consider three apartments: A uses 150 m³, B 180 m³ and C 120 m³. The example tariff is €1.50/m³ for the first 100 m³, €2.00 from 101 to 300 m³ and €3.00 above 300 m³.
- A: €150 + €100 = €250 for water.
- B: €150 + €160 = €310 for water.
- C: €150 + €40 = €190 for water.
Fixed and variable charges for each apartment
The total fixed charge is €300, allocated as €100 per apartment. The additional variable tariff is €0.50/m³.
- A: €250 + €100 + €75 = €425.
- B: €310 + €100 + €90 = €500.
- C: €190 + €100 + €60 = €350.
Comparison with the supplier bill
The calculated total is €1,275. With an actual bill of €1,300, the remaining difference is €25.
Too complicated?
Manual allocation can be difficult and prone to mistakes. Goccia performs the allocation automatically.
